The
Rt. Rev. M. A. Washington, M. Div.
General Secretary
On November 30, 1976, Bishop
Myrondous Alan Washington was born in Opelika, Alabama to M. L.
& Shirley Washington. At a very early age of 16, Pastor Washington
heard the call to ministry, but for three years tried to dismiss
it. Later contemplating the choice of attending the prestigious
Auburn University for the Chemical Engineering program or preaching
the Gospel; he finally surrendered to the voice and will of God,
and preached a compelling and inspirational sermon on Sunday,
July 13, 1996 at Bethel #2 Baptist Church in Opelika, Alabama.
That night many people gave their lives to Christ; and from that
sermon alone, Bishop-Elect Washington became in great demand for
preaching engagements. This led to an almost immediate need to
be ordained. Thus, within six months of his initial sermon, he
was ordained by the late Dr. P.A. Boykin, former moderator of
the National Baptist Organization.
As if launching out into
the deep to preach the Gospel at nineteen wasn’t bold enough;
in January of 1997, he controversially married the former, DiShan
Winters. She was 16; he was 20. It made her a third generation
pastor’s wife; it made him a better preacher. Together they
became a blazing force in the church arena. Equipped with a plethora
of talents that were often mesmerizing and engaging of someone
his age, he quickly became a highly sought after revivalist, psalmist,
conference conductor, and lecturer. Within a year of his ministry,
churches, both small and large, began to compel him to lead their
congregation.
At the age of 21, he accepted
the call to pastor a small group of people in Rutledge, Alabama,
at Little Baptist Hill Baptist Church. Having never heard of such
a remote town, he felt led to that group of people to re-ignite
and restore their faith in God. During his time of leadership,
the membership grew from twenty-five members to more than two
hundred within the first year—with people driving from as
far as forty and fifty miles. This growth resulted in a church
renovation and expansion, the restoration of the church’s
confidence, and soon it became the beacon church of the community.
Just before his assignment ended, Bishop Washington led them in
a name change to New Baptist Hill Church, as he prophesied and
declared that they were new in Christ and would never be the same.
He was so effective in impacting the lives there, that presently,
individuals from that church still serve him and his wife at their
current ministry.
While at NBH, he never stopped
traveling the road as an evangelist. There were several months
in his earlier years of ministry when his only pause from preaching
would be once a week. He was traveling more than it was recommended
by his physician, but his love for preaching and seeing the lives
of people transformed, prompted him to heed every call.
During one of his many stops,
he was noticed by the Chairman of the Deacon Board at a historic
church in Winston, Georgia. Immediately drawn to his charismatic
spirit, and incredible anointing, Bishop-Elect Washington was
presented the opportunity to serve as their Assistant Pastor with
future plans of being elected to the Senior Pastor role. After
much prayer, he accepted this new assignment, and relocated to
Georgia. He remained the Assistant Pastor for a period of four
years, and an almost unanimous vote changed that status two years
later, and New Mountain Top Baptist Church elected him to be their
Senior Pastor. During his six year tenure at NMT, the church grew
tremendously as his personality drew the young and old alike;
and in little time, the hundreds turned into more than a thousand.
Also, during these years, Bishop Washington was privileged to
share the stage and further develop his notoriety and musical
arm, alongside his then minister of music—the legendary,
James Bignon. Since that time, he’s joined, sang, and performed
with notables, such as: Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Regina Belle,
Shirley Murdock, Bishop Paul S. Morton, The Williams Brothers,
Darwin Hobbs, Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson, and many
more.
At the peak of a ministerial
career, circumstances incited him to step out on faith and found
the Agape Global Church—a church with a mission of empowering
and teaching that God’s love is unconditional. Not only
has the teaching of that love been effective, but more importantly—the
demonstration of that love—has resulted in a membership
of more than 500 in the three years it has been established. The
church was planted with the intention of being a church in action,
and with all of the ministries that Bishop Washington has implemented
to ensure this goal is achieved, the community enjoys the benefits
of that labor. His unwavering sacrifice, and unprecedented devotion
to training and developing leaders, has resulted in the ordinations
of first-time Deacons, Elders, and ministers of the Gospel.
In addition to his raw talent
of teaching and preaching, he also has a spectacular, natural
gift of intelligence. His unique, analytical and philosophical
approach has led him to converse and serve on platforms with individuals
such as, the former U.S. Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich,
and the Rev. Dr. Joseph Roberts, Jr. (former pastor of the historic
Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA.) His zest for knowledge
has led him to obtain degrees with concentrations in Biblical
Studies, Pastoral Counseling, & Theology. He’s the author
of publications that have been published in national library publications,
as well as the book, “No More Stress;” which is being
used as a much needed reference guide in the dismal days of an
ailing economy, and failing faith.
Bishop Washington is a graduate
of Covenant Bible College & Theological Seminary, earning
the degrees of Bachelor of Arts in Theological Studies and a Master
of Divinity.
An amazing new chapter of
his life began on November 14, 2009, as he was ordained and consecrated
to the position of Bishop within the United Assemblies of Christ
International fellowship at the hand of Apostle++D. E. Chase,
Ph.D. and bestowed full lines of Apostolic Succession.
He is unquestionably, undeniably
an instrument being used by God through prolific and relevant
messages. And, with a mandate to reach the world, those that know
him anxiously wait to see the full manifestation of his God-given
destiny. |
